First Ferry - by Dale

We made our way down to the ferry terminal today after a fine breakfast with Wallburg and Lief who have an apartment across from the one we rented. This quiet Norwegian couple met 50 years ago in the Peace Corps in Uganda where they were pressured to marry but resisted the need to say that she would obey. She rose high in politics related to social services while he started his career cutting trees and the the last part preserving them when this was quite unpopular. They explained the current politics in Norway with an important election coming Monday. They also gave us more insight to what Norway was like in the past and is going through now. They have compassion and pride and concern about the future here just as we do back home.

We greatly enjoyed the time spent with them and especially that they chose to bring us in to talk and eat and show the beautiful costume Wallberg wears regularly including on Nationsl a day everyMay 17th. We had to reluctantly pass on their offer to show us a local high point overlooking the city so that we could finish packing and clean up.

We headed out around 1 pm to catch a tram downtown and on to the port. We hit it just right and then relaxed waiting to board the DFDS ferry line ship to Copenhagen. We have a room with a window view and double beds/bunks complete with our own tiny bathroom with shower and more. The dinner buffet was a smorgasbord board we didn't want to miss and turned out to be quite an experience. I had a small woman try to shove me around the table while she collected her favorite dishes and handled everything she could to help a friend. The food piled high and the people seemed afraid it would go away before they got their share.

This is a big boat with at least 11 floors, a shopping center, bar, resturant, disco and more. We have two more of these booked but won't need another meal as big as the one we just finished. We did make some progress with our problem of getting to and from the ferry terminals to train connections. Tomorrow will test that as we attempt to arrange shuttle booking, cancel a buffet meal and still make our train onto Germany within a two hour window. If we make it we will have two transfers before we arrive back in Copenhagen at 11 pm. After three days there we catch another ferry and head to Great Britain for the second half of this great trip.

Never pass a Wi-Fi opportunity

Looking out our cabin at a last view of Oslo

We didn't make it to this waterfront location or figure out what that tilting sculpture is.

Tea time before "sailing" we should have grabbed a few more of those goodies!
