Narcolepsy - by Laurie

We've been in Copenhagen for a day and a half and so far my greatest pleasure has been sleep. And sleep...and sleep.  We got in yesterday afternoon exhausted by the long plane ride (any plane ride is long) and weeks of preparation and the tail end of my cold. We chose the wrong direction looking for our bnb apartment so probably walked twice as far as we needed to with our luggage. When we finally got there it was nap time. More like coma time.

Woke up and went walking in our neighborhood, Norrebro. Fascinating area, bikes all over, lovely buildings, multiethnic, full of energy. Couldn't resist an Ethiopian meal for dinner. There's nothing better than eating Ethiopian with injera. A good start. Then back to sleep.

This morning we had plans--the green energy tour at 1 pm (13:00 around here). We rolled out of bed at the crack of 11 and headed over to the fountain where we were to meet the tour. We wandered into a marketplace for sweet rolls, in and out of narrow streets, along the Strøget (famous shopping street), down by the harbor, found the wrong fountain, passed the right fountain without realizing it, got to the little mermaid and realized we were too far, and returned to the correct fountain 15 minutes too late. We missed the tour. Have I mentioned it was warm? Or that I was tired? We watched some mystery birds in the park then headed to our next goal, the Design Museum.

After starting off once again in the wrong direction (Dale is only allowed to navigate in North America now--he's left-handed with situs inversus so his sense of direction is backwards and inside out) we found the museum. First things first--we went to the cafe for a lovely lunch outside. And dessert. And then the gift store--just to look. I was ready for a nap by then but we persevered and went through the whole museum (half of it was closed for renovations anyway), which was fabulous. I've decided that we'll redo our house in beautiful Danish design (Ikea) when we return. No more clutter--yay!

Then back home, picked up some sushi at the marketplace, and nap time. Now we're washing clothes (it was a group effort to figure out the settings in Danish--then we crossed our fingers and pushed a button) and it's bedtime. Hooray!

We've got little to show for our first couple of days here, so tomorrow is our big day to do everything else. Here's the plan: get up early, go out to breakfast, rent bikes, go to the station to make our train reservation for Sweden, ride all around, see Christiania, meet Ellen's friend Carol for coffee, Tivoli in the evening, then pack for the next morning. I love plans. They always seem so doable when you're making them. Stayed tuned for tomorrow's reality.
